The Protestant Reformation begin

On October 31, 1517, German monk and professor Martin Luther sparked the Protestant Reformation by writing and circulating his 95 Theses.
Key Events
The 95 Theses: Luther nailed his Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, challenging the Catholic Church's sale of indulgences (payments to forgive sins).
Core Beliefs: He taught that salvation is a free gift received through faith alone (sola fide) and that the Bible—not the Pope—is the sole authority for Christian life.
The Printing Press: Using movable type, his ideas spread rapidly across Europe in both Latin and German.
Excommunication: Pope Leo X excommunicated Luther in 1521 with the papal bull Decet Romanum Pontificem, after which Emperor Charles V declared him an outlaw at the Diet of Worms.
