Current Research and Claims

  • Melittin and Cancer: Laboratory studies show that melittin (a key peptide in bee venom) can disrupt cancer cell membranes—including certain breast cancer cells—in test tubes. However, scientists emphasize these results are restricted to preclinical cell cultures, and it is not a proven or safe clinical cancer treatment.

  • Apitherapy & Chronic Conditions: Alternative practices involve live bee stings or venom injections for joint pain, inflammation, or autoimmune conditions. Major medical bodies (such as the American Academy of Neurology and multiple sclerosis trusts) state there is no solid clinical evidence proving efficacy for conditions like multiple sclerosis

  • No Regulation: Live bee acupuncture or unregulated apitherapy lacks standardized dosing, sterile controls, or predictable safety profiles
