Recreational Cannabis is Illegal: Cannabis (including THC) is classified as a Class B drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. It is illegal to possess, cultivate, supply, or produce cannabis for recreational purposes. Penalties include up to 5 years in prison for possession and up to 14 years for supplying.

Medical Cannabis Regulation: Medical cannabis was legalized on November 1, 2018, but it is strictly regulated. It can only be prescribed by a specialist doctor on the General Medical Council (GMC) register, not by a general practitioner (GP).
